If your child has Tourette’s Syndrome or suffers from a Tic Disorder then Resolved! Counselling for Children may be able to help!

Tics are a stress response.
Suppressed or poorly processed stress can result in any number of complaints, from eating disorders through OCD to conversion disorder and panic attacks. For some reason your son or daughter has found tics to be a means of dispelling such suppressed stress and anxiety.
People with tics and Tourette’s explain that they can feel the stress rising to a peak and then the tic arrives and causes its catharsis. Being stressed about the tic becomes another contributory factor.
After all, if being stressed brings tics then being anxious about the existence of tics only adds to the building of that very same stress. It’s a vicious circle and one which needs to be beaten.
Resolved! Counselling for Children could teach your son or daughter new ways of managing stress and relating to tics.
These approaches, in addition to the more traditional approaches to child and adolescent counselling and psychotherapy, could help them to let go of a tic disorder or minimise the occurrence of Tourette’s related tics.
Reduce stress and anxiety and tics take care of themselves
I don’t know what is causing your child to be more stressed and anxious than need be the case. In a child or teenager with Tourette’s then perhaps that syndrome is enough by itself. Still, there will always be other problems and learning to process stress and anxiety in a more healthy manner can only prove helpful. Learn to build up a healthier sense of self and stress levels will reduce. Learn to relax around the tics and the problem of tics will diminish.
I work with my tic and Tourette’s clients to improve their sense of self, to increase self-acceptance, self-esteem and self-confidence. Learning to be more self-compassionate, despite tics or Tourette’s will help to relieve stress and to thus reduce the tics.
Using traditional methods of counselling and psychotherapy, appropriately for the age of the child concerned, together with mindfulness and even hypnotherapy, tics can be minimised or even eliminated altogether.
